Killarney Flooring and Tile Centre specializes in laminate and engineered flooring, porcelain and ceramic wall and floor tiles. We are a family-owned business, and deal on a one to one basis with our customers – guiding them through the appropriate products and advising on colour, size, quality and budget. Our advice is based on over twenty-seven years of experience.

Tiles are divided into two categories, porcelain tiles which are distinguished by the white backing biscuit. Porcelain tiles are baked at a higher temperature in the kiln so are more durable, and we would therefore recommend such for floors and always where underfloor heating is involved as porcelain is a better conductor of heat compared to ceramic tiles. Ceramic tiles are distinguished by the brown biscuit backing, and are normally used for walls, and small floor spaces such as bathrooms or where there is less foot traffic.

The premium tile is one that is made with porcelain, has a digital print and is rectified. Digital is the process where they digitally photocopy a product such as wood, marble or natural stone onto the porcelain tile. It goes through the same process to being fired in the kiln but before it is boxed, it goes through an extra process whereby the tile is cut exactly to size thus ensuring that a tight joint of 1 mm can be obtained as normal/standard tiles would have a tolerance difference of between .1 and .5 in their sizing resulting in a grout joint of 2 to 3 mm.

We have an extensive knowledge of wood and laminate flooring, and our technical expertise has saved several customers the nightmare of failed flooring. We have specialised equipment to take moisture readings in the concrete screed, the existing door frames and the humidity in the air. These readings are crucial for a successful floor fitting. In the event that these readings are high, the wood or laminate if delivered and left, will naturally soak in all this moisture and after a short period of time, the floors will expand and buckle – a nightmare for anybody.

Experience, quality goods, competitive prices and personal service are the foundations of our business.
